Personal Interests!

There are a number of things that I like to do that are very exciting and intriguing to me! One of which is my sorority, Alpha Xi Delta! I know that it is cliche to a number of people, however, it is something that I have dedicated a lot of time and effort into and have learned a lot from such as leadership, social skills, and service opportunites! On this site, there is opportunities for membership, pictures of fun events, and a link to our National Website!

If you love being outdoors (especially around a pool) and love theme parks, you’re a lot like me!  I am a certified American Red Cross Lifeguard specifically for Large Extreme Waterparks! By visiting this site, you will find all the information you need about how to become a lifeguard in your area, why you should be a lifeguard, and tales of lifeguards saving lives! Check it out – you get paid & it’s tons of fun!

I have always been very involved with fitness & fun!  A sport that you should look at if you’re in to endurance building, long distances, and the outdoors is Cross Country Running! By checking out Running Journal, you are able to gain information about how to be a great distance runner, how to join running competitions in your area, and create your own running journal!

Facebook.  Someone that everyone at Marshall University seems to be jumping on the bandwaggon to seems to be one of my personal interests these days! Whether I am checking messages, looking at pictures, or trying to find someone from way back when – I’m using it!  Facebook connects you to everyone – teachers, friends, classmates, and even family.  It is one of the easiest ways to communicate these days and I’m using it all the time for it seems like everything!

Dicipline Specific!

A site that everyone should be familiar with and be acustomed to in our area of study is ASHA! American Speech-Language-Hearing Association is a site dedicated to it’s members and even the community giving information on a wide array of communication.  It offers information about education, job opportunities, ASHA’s strategic plans and goals, and access to resources useful for those who are involved in speech pathology and audiology.

Another site vital to our array of study is the Marshall University Communication Disorders page.  By visiting this site, the user is able to learn about the program (undergraduate & graduate), read the clinic handbook, review program policies, and even download forms.  As a communication disorders student at Marshall University, this site has something that we all can and perhaps should use and review!

A site that is very useful for students in our discipline, is the NSSLHA site.  This site, National Student Speech Language and Hearing Association, is very helpful in learning skills and services available to students in this practice.  On this page, you are able to renew your membership, log into discussion forums, shop, and so much more!  This site is very credible as it is attached to and is a member of ASHA, another previously prominant site.

Research Resources!

Speechville Express is a site that was developed that has a large area dedicated to Pediatric Dysphagia.  This site was developed by a number of various professionals and is used more in my research as links to other resources.  A large amount of the information on this site was derived from ASHA and is very easy to read and look through.  By looking at this site, you are able to find a wide array of articles, books, and products used to aid with the assessment and treatment of pediatric swallowing disorders.

On the site Carolina Pediatric Dysphagia, there is a large amount of information dedicated to Pediatric Swallowing Disorders and Oral Myofunctional Disorders.  On this site, you are able to find a large amount of information about pediatric swallowing symptoms, give feedback, and get information from professionals about certain problems and areas.  You are also able to contact the developers for more information that is more useful to your specific case.

By visiting EbscoHost on Academic Search Premier on the Marshall University Libraries page, you are able to access a wide variety of resources specific to your topic. By looking for your topic (advanced searching is available) you are able to gain journals, peer-reviewed articles, and other publications that are credible and useful for your research.  This site is one of the largest multi-disciplinary databases available!

Fun Stuff!

By visiting the site SnapBubbles you are able to play around and relieve some stress by actually popping virtual bubble wrap!  I love to pop the sheets of it when it comes in packages! If you do too, get on this website and you will never run out of air filled bubble sacs! (My little cousin loves this site!)  It’s alot of fun! Try it out!

Another site that I love to view and play around on is CrazyThoughts! By visiting this site, you can read questions that are very random and funny that you thought that you were the only one that wondered about this, or some that you never would! There are things on there such as why do they put round pizzas in a square box to why does it say shake well on ketchup bottles but not packets?  If you wanna laugh, give this site a try!

Getting on the website, Lemonade Stand, you are able to set up your own online Lemonade Stand and see how much you are able to sell in a day! It has everything to do with your marketing and management skills (but not too in depth, it’s lemonade)!  You must pick how much you are going to sell the cups for, how much lemonade you are going to make, and even how many lemons to use! It’s really fun, but don’t get hooked on selling your lemonade!

Nice site Whitney… stumbled upon you on a google search and thought you might like to read our ltest newsletter… here you go!

Remember the first time you heard a flight attendant say, “Put your oxygen mask on first, before you help the child next to you.” Did it make you stop and think? So often the concept of putting ourselves first so we can better help the ones around us seems selfish. Yet, in truth, without oxygen we are no help at all to the struggling children beside us.

    What is Work Lifestyle?

Most jobs have predictable work days, with known breaks and lunches and typical starting and ending times. This structure forms the basic framework of the daily work schedule and ultimately the work lifestyle. School-based SLPs, on the other hand, have to develop this daily work lifestyle on their own. I still can’t believe how many Caselite SLPs are thrilled just to know they will have a predictable breath for lunch or time for a bathroom break. It is even more amazing how setting aside weekly time for paperwork dramatically reduces the stress of watching the stacks of paper grow higher. Who wants a job where there isn’t enough time to eat, go to the restroom, or catch up?

Retain SLPs with a focus on Work Lifestyle

Recently, we have been asked, “How can Caselite help retain my SLPs?” Our answer is simple. Whether you are a district administrator or an SLP, the cost of a selfless work lifestyle is too great to overlook. SLPs gravitate to work in the schools for the distinct advantages of working with children and the rewards of experiencing their joy as they succeed in overcoming challenges. However, creating a sustainable work lifestyle is an art that requires both the right perspective and the right technology. With the right technology you can easily manipulate your schedule with confidence, and with the right perspective you can require that your schedules measure up to you desired work lifestyle.

    Best Wishes,

    - Jason
