Communication is Beautiful!

Genre 2 – Acrostic Poem December 5, 2006

This is an Acrostic Poem (learned from examples of CD 315 notes) about a child, Drake, who has a Pediatric Dysphagia Swallowing Disorder.  It is from a child’s eyes and is very childlike and simple.

Someone told my Mommy, there’s something wrong with me,

Wondering what it is, I guess we’ll have to wait to see.

Always seeing new people, they each want me to eat,

Laying here is kind of rough; I can’t say it’s a treat.

Laughing at all of the smiling faces helps me to not be sad,

Over & over we go to the hospital, always hoping it won’t be so bad.

Waiting for Mommy to be happy, she just wants me to try,

In the hospital I get to eat new things, they always just make her sigh.

Never being able to swallow without coughing makes me want to give up,

Getting to be a normal kid would be so great; I just want to drink from a cup.
